Me

I started this photoblog back in 2006 as a means of lighting a fire under my ass and forcing me to keep shooting. Although I've been shooting for about twelve years now, it was somewhat sporadic until sometime in 2004, when I bought a Nikon d70 on impulse.

I'm bad with impulse control.

Since then I've been shooting fairly regularly and (I'd like to think) slowly improving, thanks in no small part to the interweb and sites like Kelby Training, Cambridge In Color, Digital Photography School.

My gear

I'm currently shooting with a Nikon d700 and a very small selection of lenses. A few months ago I managed to land a Panasonic Lumix GF-1, which I keep with me constantly. As Chase Jarvis has said, the best camera is the one you have with you. When I was rocking just the d700, I often left it at home because it was too heavy and too expensive to have as an everyday camera. I'm so glad I now have the GF-1 to aptly fill that role.

In the past I've owned (going backwards): a Lumix LX3, a d300, a d80, a d70, a Canon Powershot S40, and before that a Kodak Easyshare DX3500 (my first digital camera). On the film side of things, I currently own a Mamiya C220. I had a Nikon FM10, but I sold it to help pay for the d700. I hardly ever shot 35mm film anymore, so it was an easy decision to make. I still shoot with the Mamiya from time to time, developing the film in my kitchen and scanning it with an Epson V700.
