Chuck and Julie are two of my favorite people around. I have friends I’ve known longer or friends I know on deeper levels, but when it comes to just simple, unadulterated (keyword unadult) fun, Chuck and Julie are a tough act to follow.

I wish I could take the credit for the fun and hijinks but the truth of the matter is, whatever silliness and kookiness that happens does so because they bring it out of you. They just have that air about them; they’re the kind of couple that can show up to a Halloween party dressed as Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy and it’s actually cute. Hell, just look at these engagement photos (and don’t get me started on the prop-filled photobooth at their wedding) — how adorable are these people?

Needless to say, I always have a blast when Chuck and Julie are in town and this past Saturday was no exception. In the span of twelve hours we had a brunch filled with delicious French toast and Belgian waffles, checked out an exhibit on Houdini, had way too much fun in Central Park, warmed up with delicious cappuccinos, and capped the night with an indescribably amazing feast at a Michelin-rated restaurant in a really rad hotel.

I don’t have this much fun in a month, let alone a single day.

All in all, it was a rollicking good time, and one I hope I’ll see more of in days to come. It’s a bit of a cliché, but the truth of the matter is I always seem to do so and discover much more when showing someone around town than I do by myself. I suppose it’s because it allows you to see things with new eyes; it’s so easy to become complacent in our own homes and it’s nice to have someone to remind just how wonderful our towns are.

Not to mention the fact that things are just a lot more fun when you have friends—both old and new—to enjoy them with.

p.s. A little bonus set of photos that I like to call “Boys and Snow: A Play In Five Acts,” all taken by the lovely Julie.
