My dad came into town for Thanksgiving weekend and we decided to take a drive out into Long Island to visit my childhood home. The cliché is that everything is so much smaller than we remember it as children. After all, we’re remembering things from a vantage point much lower to the ground, when the whole world was huge and new. And it was no different in this case.

Went to my first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade since I was five years old.

I remembered the floats being a lot bigger.

It’s amazing how much can happen in just a week. The tree has lost so much of its foliage in so short a time. I find it hilarious, though, that all the other trees have been bare for so long, and this one tree is holding on as much as it can.

I’m not a fan of telecommuting. I’ll do it when necessary, but for the most part it’s a fairly painful process. My VPN connection is always a little sluggish, I don’t have all the tools I need, and it’s a little harder to concentrate on my work. Especially with views like these right out my window.

The Macy’s in Midtown still has its original escalators in use, complete with grills an inch deep and monstrous teeth at the top that will eat you if an errant shoelace manages to get caught.

I’ve heard it said that the best thing about New Jersey is the view of New York. And while I’m sure it’s intended largely as a dig at New Jersey, I have to admit that the view of Manhattan is good enough that even if Jersey had topless beer wenches serving free alcohol, it would still come in a distant second.

Experienced my first New York Halloween tonight. I was, to be honest, somewhat disappointed. Overwhelming crowds made it impossible to see the parade, and the sea of people made joining the parade even more frustrating an endeavor.

Another photo from the Colin Hay show I caught while still in San Francisco. I’ve been spending a lot of my free time these past couple of weeks catching up on photo work that had fallen to the wayside and the shots from the show were among them.

The store had filled up fairly quickly as the show went on and since there was decent foot traffic on the sidewalk outside, more than a few passers-by would hear the music, see the crowd, and stop to check out the fuss.
