I’m a big fan of photos that take a second to hit you. Not in big ways, like it’s some sort of huge “twist,” but in subtle ways, where you’re looking at a photo and appreciating it until you notice a little detail that makes you do a double-take.
I shot this while at the de Young Museum, here in San Francisco. The tunnel leading to the entrance is lined with glass windows protecting the installations within. On a bright day, clear glass is as reflective as a polished mirror, which helped this shot of the reflection of the courtyard. It definitely works much better as a black & white, because you don’t notice that the reflection is a much duller hue than the courtyard.
