As though in testament to just how small Manila really is and how bizarrely interconnected Manileños tend to be, the brother-in-law of my good friend and stalwart traveling companion, Iñigo, is running for president.
Of the Philippines.
Though a somewhat random thing to happen, it does present some unique opportunities for photo taking that I really wouldn’t have come into any other way. We spent a few hours in the campaign headquarters on my second day in town, and just this past weekend, while spending a few days at their beach house in Balayan, we took some time to walk around the province and hand out campaign materials (mostly shirts, wristbands, and posters). And while I have a hunch the warm reception was due more to the prospect of getting free stuff (especially shirts), it was still nice to see people coming out to receive us.
