don’t shoot your heroes

I'm not an autograph hound. It's just not in my nature. I enjoy the thrill of a celebrity encounter as much as the next guy, but I never feel compelled to get an autograph or ask to have my picture taken with them. I just don't really see the point, to be honest. I don't need a photo to remind myself of the experience, and I don't feel the need to prove it to others, so I don't really bother. (This is more or less the same reason why I don't have photos of myself in front of landmarks or exotic places). Which isn't to say I haven't collected some autographs. But it was never just for the sake of the signing. What was signed was just as important. Ben Lee signed my iPod, for example. Neil Gaiman signed my old work badge.  Stuff like that. Read more [...]

the bare necessities

In "Things I Kept Meaning To Do But Never Started" news, I have instated a new house rule that anyone visiting my apartment for the first time must let me take their picture in my little studio. In the last three months I shot roughly 6,000 photographs. Not a whole lot by professional standards, sure, but it was hardly nothing. There was definitely enough blog fodder to be found. Nope, it wasn't due to a lack of material; the blame for my lack of updates lies squarely on my shoulders. Well, mine and Social Media's. Read more [...]

animals and children

While on my two-week sojourn back to The Bay, a friend and ex-coworker reached out to me. I'd shot her son's first birthday a couple years back and as the family had since increased by one, they were hoping for some family portraits. I was more than happy to oblige. Read more [...]
